Memphis Property Owners Deserve Their Own Adjuster
When a storm, burst pipe or fire damages your Memphis property, your insurance company sends its own adjuster to price the loss. That adjuster is paid by the insurer. AllCity Adjusting is a licensed Tennessee public adjusting firm that works only for you.
We document the full extent of the damage, read your policy against what actually happened, prepare the estimate, and negotiate directly with the carrier. You pay nothing up front. Our fee comes only out of what we recover for you.
Fire, Water and Storm Losses Across the Mid-South
Most of our work is fire and water damage, the two loss types where the gap between a carrier’s first offer and the true cost of rebuilding is widest. Memphis then layers on a particular storm profile and a lot of older housing stock.
Fire and smoke damage. Fire claims produce the largest underpayments we handle. The structure is only part of it. Smoke and soot move through ductwork, insulation, wall cavities and contents well beyond the rooms that burned, and an adjuster working from visible damage often scopes none of that. Contents inventories on a serious fire run to thousands of line items, and what is not documented is not paid. We handle residential, commercial and industrial fire losses across Shelby County, including total losses and business interruption.
Water damage and large water losses. Burst supply lines, failed water heaters, roof intrusion and sewer backups are the most disputed claims we see, and Memphis produces more of them than most markets because so much of the housing stock is older. The carrier’s argument is nearly always gradual seepage or deferred maintenance rather than a sudden covered event, which changes coverage entirely. In multi-family and commercial buildings a single upper-floor failure can reach every unit below it, and that belongs on one claim rather than several small ones.
Straight-line wind and severe thunderstorms. The Mid-South gets powerful straight-line wind events, the kind that can leave large parts of Shelby County without power for days or longer. These storms bring down trees and limbs onto roofs and vehicles, tear off shingles and siding, and open buildings to water. Tree-fall claims in particular get complicated fast, because coverage can differ depending on what the tree hit and whose tree it was.
Ice storms and winter damage. Memphis ice events load trees and power lines until they come down, then leave properties without heat long enough for pipes to freeze and burst. Those are two separate loss types on one event, and carriers do not always treat them as one claim.
Hail and roof damage. Spring hail across Shelby County damages roofs, gutters, siding and HVAC units. Hail is the most commonly underpaid claim type we handle, because a carrier’s adjuster can record impact as cosmetic when it has measurably shortened the roof’s remaining life.
Water damage in older housing. Midtown, Central Gardens, Cooper-Young and much of the older Memphis housing stock carry aging plumbing and original roofs. When a supply line fails or a roof lets go, carriers frequently argue the damage was gradual seepage or deferred maintenance rather than a sudden covered event. That argument is worth the entire claim, and it is one we document against directly.
Tornado risk. Shelby County sits close enough to the region’s tornado corridor that structural wind claims are a regular feature, not an exception.
We work claims across Shelby County and the surrounding Mid-South, including Midtown, Downtown and South Main, East Memphis, Cordova, Whitehaven, Frayser, Raleigh, Hickory Hill and Berclair, plus Germantown, Collierville, Bartlett, Millington and Arlington.
Memphis Claims We Handle
- Fire and smoke damage. Structure, contents, and the smoke and soot contamination that reaches well past the rooms that burned.
- Water damage. Burst and frozen pipes, supply line failures, appliance leaks, roof intrusion, sewer backup, and resulting mold.
- Storm and wind damage. Straight-line wind, tornado, tree fall, roof and envelope damage.
- Hail damage. Roof, gutters, siding and HVAC, including damage written off as cosmetic.
- Winter storm and freeze damage. Ice loading, tree fall, and the burst pipe losses that follow a prolonged outage.
- Commercial and large-loss claims. Multi-family, retail, warehouse, distribution and office property, including business interruption.
- Denied, underpaid and closed claims. We review what the carrier did and, where the policy supports it, reopen and pursue the difference.
Where Memphis Claims Lose Money
Very few claims are flatly denied. Far more are settled at a number that looked reasonable until the contractor’s estimate arrived.
On Memphis claims the recurring patterns are specific. Hail damage recorded as cosmetic so a roof gets patched rather than replaced. Tree-fall damage scoped to the visible impact point while the structural transfer through the framing goes unrecorded. Burst-pipe losses questioned on whether the property was adequately heated. Water damage in an older home attributed to long-term seepage, which changes coverage entirely. Contents depreciated to a fraction of replacement cost.
Each of those is a scope decision made by someone the insurer pays. Our job is to make the estimate reflect what it will actually cost to put the property back, with documentation the carrier has to answer.
Large, Commercial and Industrial Claims in Memphis
Most of our work sits at the higher end of the loss scale, where the distance between the carrier’s estimate and the real cost of rebuilding runs to tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Memphis is a distribution and logistics city, and that shapes the commercial claims here. We represent owners and operators of warehouse and distribution space, cold storage, manufacturing and processing facilities, multi-family and apartment portfolios, retail, medical and institutional property across Shelby County and the wider Mid-South. On those claims we handle building damage, contents, stock and equipment, code upgrade requirements, and business interruption, which is the piece most commonly underclaimed because it rests on financial records rather than visible damage. On a distribution or cold storage loss, damaged stock and downtime often exceed the building repair by a wide margin.
If your loss is large, complex, or has stalled, that is the claim we are built for.
A Full Team Behind Your Memphis Claim
A large claim is rarely just a number on a form. Behind every AllCity claim is a support team that builds a case the insurer cannot easily dispute.
- Accounting. We quantify every covered loss, structure, contents and business interruption, so nothing is left off the estimate. On a Memphis warehouse or cold storage loss that means damaged stock and spoiled inventory, which routinely exceed the building repair.
- Support. One point of contact from first notice to final payment. After a Mid-South wind or ice event, carriers field claims by the thousand across Shelby County and individual files go quiet. Ours does not.
- Storage. Restorable items stored in one place, unsalvageable items documented before anything is discarded, which matters after tree-fall and water losses where cleanup starts immediately.
- Forensics. In older Memphis housing the decisive question is whether a water loss was a sudden failure or gradual seepage, because the answer changes coverage entirely. We establish cause so the carrier cannot default to wear and tear.
- Engineering. Structural and roofing engineers document tree-impact damage, including the load transferred through framing well beyond the visible point of contact, plus wind and hail damage.
- Legal. When a carrier acts in bad faith, a network of claims attorneys is available. Most Memphis claims never need it. The option protects you.
- Relocation. If your home is unlivable, we document additional living expenses so your loss-of-use coverage actually pays, including displacement during the prolonged outages that follow Mid-South ice storms.

FAQ: Public Memphis Adjuster Services
Do I need a public adjuster in Memphis?
If your claim has been denied, underpaid, or is large or complex, then usually yes. A public adjuster represents you rather than the insurer, and a documented claim typically recovers more than the carrier’s first offer even after fees. For a small, clean claim you may not need one, and we will tell you so.
Are public adjusters licensed in Tennessee?
Yes. Tennessee licenses and regulates public adjusters, and only a licensed adjuster may represent you on a claim. AllCity Adjusting is a licensed Tennessee firm, license number 3003128963.
What does a public adjuster cost in Memphis?
Nothing up front. Our fee is a percentage of what we recover for you, so we are paid only if you are paid, and only out of the additional recovery.
A tree fell on my house. Is that covered?
Usually yes, though the detail matters. Coverage can turn on what the tree struck, whether it damaged a structure or only landed on the property, and in some cases whose tree it was. Tree-fall claims are also frequently underscoped, because damage transfers through the framing beyond the visible impact point.
My pipes burst after the power went out. Will the carrier pay?
Often yes, but carriers commonly ask whether the property was adequately heated and maintained, which can turn a sudden covered loss into a disputed maintenance question. Documenting the sequence properly is what protects the claim.
Do you handle commercial and industrial losses?
Yes, and they are a core part of our work. Memphis is a distribution and logistics market, so alongside multi-family, retail and medical property we regularly handle warehouse, cold storage and manufacturing claims, including damaged stock, equipment, code upgrades and business interruption.
Can you help after a claim is already closed?
Often yes. A closed or denied claim can frequently be reopened where the policy language and the documentation support it.
We also serve Nashville and Knoxville, and you can see our full Tennessee coverage.
