East Tennessee Claims, Handled by Your Side

When a storm, fire or water loss damages your Knoxville property, your insurance company sends its own adjuster to price it. That adjuster is paid by the insurer. AllCity Adjusting is a licensed Tennessee public adjusting firm that represents you instead.

We document the full extent of the damage, read your policy against what actually happened, prepare the estimate, and negotiate directly with the carrier. You pay nothing up front. Our fee comes only out of what we recover for you.

Built for East Tennessee and the Valley

Knoxville sits in the Tennessee Valley between the Cumberland Plateau and the Smokies, and that geography shapes the claims here in ways the rest of the state does not share.

Wildfire. East Tennessee is the one part of the state with a serious wildfire history, and a mountain fire here can reach residential property fast. Wildfire claims are among the most underpaid losses we handle, because smoke and heat damage extends well past the burn line. Properties that never caught fire can carry smoke contamination through insulation, ductwork, soft contents and structural cavities, and a carrier’s adjuster looking at an intact house often does not scope any of it.

Severe storms, wind and hail. Spring and summer storms bring damaging straight-line wind and hail across Knox County. Hail is the most commonly underpaid claim type we handle anywhere, because a carrier’s adjuster can record impact as cosmetic when it has measurably shortened a roof’s remaining life.

Flooding in the valley. The Tennessee River and its tributaries, combined with steep terrain that sheds water fast, produce flash flooding and basement losses. These claims turn on which policy responds, since flood, sewer backup and standard property coverage overlap and contradict each other.

Winter weather. Ice and snow load roofs, bring down limbs, and leave properties without heat long enough for pipes to burst. That is two loss types on one event, and carriers do not always treat them as one claim.

Older and mountain property. Much of the housing around Fountain City, North Knoxville and the older Bearden corridor carries original roofs and aging plumbing, and carriers routinely argue that water damage was gradual seepage rather than a sudden covered event. That argument is worth the entire claim.

We work claims across Knox County and East Tennessee, including West Knoxville, Bearden, Farragut, Hardin Valley, Fountain City, North and South Knoxville, Powell, Halls and Karns, plus Oak Ridge, Maryville, Alcoa, Lenoir City, Clinton, Sevierville and Gatlinburg.

Knoxville Claims We Handle

  • Fire, smoke and wildfire damage. Structure, contents, and the smoke contamination that reaches far beyond the burn line.
  • Storm and wind damage. Straight-line wind, tree fall, roof and envelope damage.
  • Hail damage. Roof, gutters, siding and HVAC, including damage written off as cosmetic.
  • Water damage. Burst and frozen pipes, supply line failures, appliance leaks, roof intrusion, and resulting mold.
  • Flood and storm water. Where flood or sewer backup coverage applies, including how it interacts with the property policy.
  • Winter storm damage. Ice and snow loading, tree fall, and the burst pipe losses that follow an outage.
  • Commercial and large-loss claims. Multi-family, retail, hospitality, office and industrial property, including business interruption.
  • Denied, underpaid and closed claims. We review what the carrier did and, where the policy supports it, reopen and pursue the difference.

Where Knoxville Claims Lose Money

Underpayment is usually quiet. Very few claims are flatly denied. Far more are settled at a number that looked reasonable until the contractor’s estimate arrived.

The East Tennessee patterns are specific. Smoke damage scoped only where there is visible soot, when contamination has reached insulation, ductwork and contents throughout the building. Hail recorded as cosmetic so a roof gets patched rather than replaced. Water damage in an older property attributed to long-term seepage, which changes coverage entirely. Flash flood losses pushed onto whichever policy pays least. Contents depreciated to a fraction of replacement cost.

Every one of those is a scope decision made by someone the insurer pays. We reverse the default by testing and documenting what the naked eye misses, particularly on smoke, so the carrier has to price the real scope.

Large, Commercial and Industrial Claims in Knoxville

Most of our work sits at the higher end of the loss scale, where the distance between the carrier’s estimate and the real cost of rebuilding runs to tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars.

We represent owners and operators of commercial, multi-family and industrial property across Knox County and East Tennessee: apartment, condominium and student housing portfolios, retail and hospitality including the Smokies tourism corridor, warehouse and distribution space, manufacturing and processing facilities, offices and institutional property. On those claims we handle building damage, contents and equipment, code upgrade requirements, and business interruption. On a fire or smoke loss in a multi-unit or hospitality building, contamination and lost occupancy routinely exceed the structural repair, and in the Smokies corridor a closure that runs through a peak season is the whole claim.

If your East Tennessee loss is large, complex, or has stalled, that is the claim we are built for.

A Full Team Behind Your Knoxville Claim

A large claim is rarely just a number on a form. Behind every AllCity claim is a support team that builds a case the insurer cannot easily dispute.

  • Accounting. We quantify every covered loss, structure, contents and business interruption, so nothing is left off the estimate. On a smoke loss that means the contents throughout the building, not only the room that burned.
  • Support. One point of contact from first notice to final payment. After an East Tennessee fire or storm event, carriers work through claims in volume and files stall. Ours does not.
  • Storage. Restorable items stored in one place, unsalvageable items documented before anything is discarded. Smoke-affected contents in particular get thrown out before anyone records what was lost.
  • Forensics. Smoke and heat travel far past the burn line. We test and document contamination in insulation, ductwork and wall cavities, so a carrier looking at an intact-looking house cannot scope it as a cleaning job.
  • Engineering. Structural and roofing engineers document hail, wind and water damage, including the slope and flash-flood water intrusion that valley terrain produces.
  • Legal. When a carrier acts in bad faith, a network of claims attorneys is available. Most Knoxville claims never need it. The option protects you.
  • Relocation. If your home is unlivable, we document additional living expenses so your loss-of-use coverage actually pays, including the long displacements typical of smoke remediation.

FAQ: Public Knoxville Adjuster Services

Do I need a public adjuster in Knoxville?

If your claim has been denied, underpaid, or is large or complex, then usually yes. A public adjuster represents you rather than the insurer, and a documented claim typically recovers more than the carrier’s first offer even after fees. For a small, clean claim you may not need one, and we will tell you so.

Are public adjusters licensed in Tennessee?

Yes. Tennessee licenses and regulates public adjusters, and only a licensed adjuster may represent you on a claim. AllCity Adjusting is a licensed Tennessee firm, license number 3003128963.

What does a public adjuster cost in Knoxville?

Nothing up front. Our fee is a percentage of what we recover for you, so we are paid only if you are paid, and only out of the additional recovery.

My house did not burn but it smells of smoke. Is that a claim?

Yes, and it is one of the most underpaid losses in East Tennessee. Smoke and heat damage travels well beyond the burn line and settles into insulation, ductwork, soft contents and structural cavities. A carrier’s adjuster looking at an intact building frequently scopes none of it. Smoke contamination can be tested and documented.

Water came in during a flash flood. Which policy pays?

That depends on how the water arrived and what coverage you carry. Flood, sewer backup and standard property coverage each respond to different causes and they overlap awkwardly. Establishing the cause correctly is usually what decides the claim.

Do you handle commercial and industrial losses?

Yes, and they are a core part of our work. We represent apartment, condominium and student housing portfolios, retail and hospitality, warehouse, manufacturing and institutional property owners across East Tennessee, including building damage, contents and equipment, code upgrades, and business interruption.

Can you help after a claim is already closed?

Often yes. A closed or denied claim can frequently be reopened where the policy language and the documentation support it.

We also serve Nashville and Memphis, and you can see our full Tennessee coverage.
